What are the results of plotting a height-field?
This is a continuation of the question: What do we mean when we say the images are 3D encoded?

With computer software, the intensity
(whiteness) in the height-field to the left is plotted as an
elevation. The software applies a viewing angle and introduces artificial lighting into the plot so we can better visualize the shape. |

The same software with the same viewing angles
and artificial lighting produces the apparent elevation in the
face. This is true for the entire body of the man imaged on the
Shroud of Turin. However, and this is important to note, this software will not produce an elevation with paintings or photographs of the human form, or any shape for that matter. Nor will it do so for any of the fakery attempts that we have seen in recent years. We can reasonable assume, therefore, that the image on the Shroud is a height-field. |
