Ulysse Chevalier
Ulysse
Chevalier (1841 – 1923) was a French bibliographer, historian and Roman
Catholic priest. He was a professor of history at the Catholic university of
Lyon. As a priest and scholar, he questioned the authenticity of of
the Shroud of Turin, which he believed had been used as a shroud but in the
14th century. He published Le Saint Suaire de Lirey-Chambéry, Turin et
les défenseurs de son authenticité.
His analysis has been largely rejected by modern historians. Nonetheless, skeptics of authenticity often refer to his works.
